CP 22 🤲🏽 Voice & Vision & Hearing & Dreaming
Don’t get lost in just pushing stuff around
Welcome back! This playlist is dedicated to voice. It’s the best yet. But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself. Enjoy, friend.
Some years ago I ventured into learning the trumpet after quickly falling in love with it at a live music venue in Brooklyn. It was one of those things where I was so filled with love and desire and a pure intention that within a week I not only found a trumpet, I met my trumpet teacher, and someone whose interests overlapped with mine so much that we became close friends. There are a lot of remarkable things about the trumpet and the process of learning it that blew my mind. But something that especially lingers is when I realized…
… you have to actually hear (in your mind) the sound that you want to make before you bring your lips to the instrument.
I love it.
Before I get into how a mess leaks into other areas of your life, I want to first remind you that we are creative creatures always making our lives around us, even if unintentional or unknowingly.
I also want to remind you that clutter, confusion, overwhelm, clarity, direction, well-being… are all relative and depend entirely on the individual (You!). How You make sense of the world, and what’s important to You. For that reason, seeing and truly understanding people without judgment is the absolute highest value for me and the work that I do. I’m not imposing ideas and structures on you. I’m not calling you disorganized. I’m not telling you you have to do anything.
I’m purposely anti-motivation (more on this in a future CP) so Coaching calls with me feel more like creative wellness “studio visits” during which we check out whats going on, what you’re thinking about, what you’ve noticed, what direction you want to go in, how to think about or approach things in a way that creates more space and options for you, what to bring to the forefront or what to release from your attention, how to proceed and progress in a way that feels integral and aligned… and I drop in my expertise when and where it’s appropriate to best facilitate you getting to where you want to be.
ALL of what you’re doing and being and wanting and imagining and experiencing is relevant in this space.
So back to that thing about hearing the musical note in your mind before you try to play it. I want to talk about this quality as it relates to your capacity to sort through your space or troubles. Hearing the note in your mind before putting your lips to the instrument is very much equivalent to clarifying your intention about… well, anything. But specifically, any mess that you want to get sorted out, physical or non physical; spatial, conceptual, emotional, etc.
Let me tell you what I’ve noticed about your communication when you’re amidst a mess (this is observational not judgemental):
You tend to be kinda…vague, indirect, inefficient, ineffective, unclear… A communication goal that could take a 3 minutes and a brief exchange takes several days or months… Something that ought to be simple becomes tangled and complicated somehow…
This is what I notice in your communication before I even see your space or know the particulars of your puzzle.
And this type of communication feels like: Pushing things around!
It feels like pushing words and ideas around without a clear intent. But words and ideas are not much less tangible than physical things. And our problem-solving mind is revealed in whatever medium we are touching. So… from the way you’re communicating I already know what your space looks like.
What is your actual intent? Really?
Do you truly want to clear this mess up? Are you kind of enjoying the drama or have you habituated the struggle?
Your language is an extension of your organizational intelligence so here’s what I’d encourage you to do… You don’t even have to think about the specific mess, your closet or conceptual puzzles. You don’t have to do any of that.
Simply start paying attention to your language, how you think, how you communicate, and then by extension of that, the choices you make.
Ask yourself: What is my intent? What do I actually intend for this situation?
And then focus on being: direct, straightforward, clear, effective, efficient, specific
This alone will be clarifying and impactful for you!
Also, ask yourself: If I really want to get this sorted out… how much energy is it taking me to complain about my problem on social media or to loved ones, compared to how quick it might be to simply fix it or reach out to someone who can.
If you don’t already know, I’m HERE, and SO ready to help you out. But you have to actually want it. You have to truthfully want the things you say you want.
When your intention is clear nothing gets in the way and you know exactly how to proceed; you will reach out to or run into exactly who you need. Be honest about what is calling you and if you’re creating barriers that don’t need to be there.
Imagination faculties first and foremost,
Imagination is necessary in healing,
