Care Packages🤲🏽

You know when someone who loves you sends you a parcel with a bunch of goodies in it? I’m endeared to the care package (in whatever form it comes) as a way of making, way of caring, way of sharing. There’s no shortage of possibility as to how a care package presents, what it contains, what assortments are collected, how it’s delivered, how it’s received, and what it might mean to it’s recipients.

I value that this orientation toward making and giving can bring together items that you don’t always see together. You’re simply giving what’s needed and what might land as care. I like when a care package is a sweet collection of some practical stuffs and also things for pure enjoyment (maybe highlighting the functionality of joy and pleasure to our survival); a mix of things you can use in the long run plus some things to use right now. A box containing socks, a nice notebook, some chocolate, a bag of rice.

I like both mail and creating with the intention to give, so the Care Package holds a place in my heart. I send the people on my list a weekly (email) Care Package 🤲🏽. I write them with the intention of both holding space for all the positive possibility that you radiate, and to be of real tangible use. Ideas that you can grab onto, that make a difference in your life.

I created the Care Package Archive to collect these packages all in one place. Sign up if ya wanna receive em straight to your inbox.

you ARE making progress

This memory has been a touchstone for me and I've shared the lesson with many friends if they ever express the feeling of not making progres. It’s an illusion. And I learned that in calligraphy class.

***

I'm in calligraphy class and it's a few weeks in. We’re still practicing writing o’s, which is so so so much more difficult than it sounds.

We’re sitting there individually practicing these simple marks and the instructor notices that we’re getting a little frustrated. We didn't say anything, but she could tell. She said something that has stuck with me, clearly, ever since. Obvi I don't recall her exact words but it was something to the effect of...

“I can tell that you’re all getting frustrated but trust that you're making progress. Now that you've been working for a few weeks you can spot your mistakes better. You're making progress, it's just that our eye develops more quickly than our hand does."..... And I've literally never been the same since learning this piece of wisdom. Actually genius.

Our minds and our capacity to see where we’re going develop ahead of our physical tangible progress, which creates the illusion that we're stagnant. By stepping into action you start learning and catapult your mind. You simply widen the gap between where you are and where you believe you can be. You're not losing progress, you’re gaining vision. And potential. And possibilities

If you're feeling frustrated... you're probably learning and you've probably just expanded your potential. Take it easy, you've got this, keep going.
