Care Packages🤲🏽

You know when someone who loves you sends you a parcel with a bunch of goodies in it? I’m endeared to the care package (in whatever form it comes) as a way of making, way of caring, way of sharing. There’s no shortage of possibility as to how a care package presents, what it contains, what assortments are collected, how it’s delivered, how it’s received, and what it might mean to it’s recipients.

I value that this orientation toward making and giving can bring together items that you don’t always see together. You’re simply giving what’s needed and what might land as care. I like when a care package is a sweet collection of some practical stuffs and also things for pure enjoyment (maybe highlighting the functionality of joy and pleasure to our survival); a mix of things you can use in the long run plus some things to use right now. A box containing socks, a nice notebook, some chocolate, a bag of rice.

I like both mail and creating with the intention to give, so the Care Package holds a place in my heart. I send the people on my list a weekly (email) Care Package 🤲🏽. I write them with the intention of both holding space for all the positive possibility that you radiate, and to be of real tangible use. Ideas that you can grab onto, that make a difference in your life.

I created the Care Package Archive to collect these packages all in one place. Sign up if ya wanna receive em straight to your inbox.

Nervous is EXCITED, spelled wrong

That physical stuff going on inside your body- sweaty palms, dry mouth, jittery stomach... all of that is simply your body preparing to do it’s best. Get rid of all the other ideas about it. Get rid of the word anxiety and the word nervous. Go ahead and redefine what’s going on in your body.

Depending on what you’re nervous about you might be thinking.. ”what if I don’t do well, what if they don’t like me, what if this, what if that…”

First, remember this fact: you don’t have to be thinking at all. We are physical living bodies and it’s true we have a lot of thought processes, but if you’re having a though process that’s unproductive for you... turn that shit off. Change the channel. Pull the plug on it. If you find yourself in a moment where your mind is not helping you, then don’t listen to it. You are not your mind, that’s important to remember. Reject that idea, especial if you’re feeling anxious. If your thinking is not helping, stop it. That’s step one

After you do that you’re left with the physical stuff, what’s going on inside your body, all that energy inside you, which can be uncomfortable, I get it. Let’s name it energy instead of nerves or anxiety. And let’s decide that it’s your body preparing to do it’s best… because that’s actually what’s going on. That's step two.

You'll more confidently believe this if you do what needs to be done to prepare for the occasion. Set yourself up for success by being well-prepared. That's step three.

To do this, separate what you can control and what you can’t. What CAN you do? Make sure your stuff is packed, collect your important documents, study thoroughly, get a good nights rest, a good breakfast… (This step will differ depending on what it is you’re nervous about) In every situation there’s stuff you CAN control and stuff you can’t. Focus on what you CAN do and step forward. One foot in front of the other.

By now you will have sorted a lot of confusion. The simple act of sorting what and what not to focus on, what and what not to do, should put you at ease. Lastly, anxiety and nervousness are EXCITED just scrambled with the wrong thoughts and words. Once you've gone through the previous steps, you'll likely find an opportunity in from of you. What's the opportunity? What are you excited about?
